Bell Material

All HD Series B^b Trumpets come standard with a hand-hammered yellow brass bell. Yellow brass bells are more consistent in tonal color regardless of dynamics.

Optional sterling silver bells offer a focused, dense sound. Darker in timbre in softer dynamics and brighter in louder dynamics, these bells “zing” when playing ff.

Tuning Bells

Detachable tuning bells are standard on the S43HDL-F Faddis model and are available by special order on any other HD Series B^b Trumpet. The advantage of the tuning bell feature is that the tuning slide can be left all the way in or moved only a little, thereby keeping the bore relatively free of gaps that may cause a disturbance in the nodal pattern of the sound wave. Another advantage is that different bells of varying tapers, materials and finishes may be used to change characteristics of the instrument.

Nomenclature

HD stands for Heavy Design. Using design concepts first introduced in our S Series, the HD Series modifies those concepts using heavy walled material in the body, a hand-hammered bell and a new leadpipe design to offer a modern take on a classic design.

Like with the S Series, the HD Series B^b Trumpets feature a two-part nomenclature. The first number indicates bore size (2 for large, 3 for medium large, 4 for medium) and the second number indicates bell taper (2 for #2 taper, 3 for #3 taper).
